Some nice things wot people said

I worked with Sami on The Responder. From the moment we started working together he was engaged, professional and full of great ideas. He’s collaborative from start to finish and is constantly coming up with ways to evolve the project. He treats his crew with care and respect and cares about what he’s doing. There were endless evenings where me and him had to do an extra recce or catch up about new scripts on the weekends and he was always a total legend. We’ve worked together more recently on a commercial project and it was just as joyful! This legend is organised, creative and a genuinely nice human being who cares about the projects he is making and the people he is making them with. Charlotte Pearson Director

When I was setting out to make IN THE FLESH for BBC3 I wanted to find a northern production designer with particular flair and I was recommended to meet a commercials designer called Sami Khan. And I’m so glad I did. Sami blew me away with his presentation and ideas about the story and his approach. There is no doubt that his thoughts and imagination played a key role in the success of that project and its BAFTA win. We went on to collaborate on a very different beast in JK Rowlings A CASUAL VACANCY creating intrigue in a chocolate box world of Cotswold privilege, which was a million miles from the dour landscape of zombie ridden Lancashire. Again Sami shone with his input and sensibility for aligning the storytelling and the design seamlessly. INFORMER followed and another BAFTA nomination for Best series - Sami‘s appreciation of the writing, the characters and the authenticity of his sets were phenomenal. Frustratingly we then got out of sync with our respective availability, but I am eager and excited for the next time he‘ll be free to work together again and naturally cannot recommend  him highly enough to others. Sami is an artist. He thinks deeply and imaginatively about the stories we tell. He has an unflappable manner and is utterly 100% dedicated to what he does. Jonny Campbell Director

I’ve worked with Sami for well over a decade, and he’s consistently one of the most reliable, resourceful, and talented production designers I’ve ever collaborated with. Sami has an exceptional grasp of budgets — he knows exactly how to make every penny count without ever compromising on the look or the ambition of a project.
He keeps everything on track, rolls with the punches, and somehow stays calm and creative in the middle of any storm. Sami has a fantastic eye for detail and an instinctive understanding of how to create the right look for any brief. When things get hectic, he’s always the one who finds a clever, practical solution. He’s a joy to work with and an absolute asset to any production. Emma Hughes Commercials Producer

Sami was an exceptional Head of Department and a valued collaborator on Domino Day for the BBC. He brought creativity, insight, and strong leadership to both pre-production and on-set work. His thoughtful research and ability to foster a diverse, talented team made a significant impact on the project. I would highly recommend him for any future production. Nadira Amrani Director

Sami is a delight to work with and a wonderful designer, I look forward to working with him again. Jayne Chard Drama Producer

I worked with Sami  on a show called ‘Maternal’ in 2022. I found him to be talented, professional, warm, personable and always approachable. He came onto the job fairly late and amongst other things, managed to construct a full scale hospital ward in a short time and under difficult circumstances. I was very impressed with his design and indeed it had a huge impact on the show, making everything feel real and believable. Nothing was a problem for him and his excellent team and he was a real pleasure to work with. A true and passionate collaborator; he certainly elevated the show and contributed towards its success. I would be very glad to work with him again in the future. Richard Mott DOP
